The First 100

Okay so everyone by now has seen that there's this trend on my facebook/twitter page called "What it means to be a husband"...well I am here to start explaining to you the serious details behind those tweets.

This all started for me back in April...when I realized that one of the hardest things I had to learn to do (after getting married)was learn to listen. I had developed a serious problem where I had become the central focus between me and Donna. It has now been almost 5 months since we got married. So I am learning how to stand tall, how to fight, how to defend the woman you love, it takes everything you have to not give up.

First Lesson: The listening

Men, here is the point that I wish to make to you...if you are married, you need to focus on how you listen to your wife. It doesn't matter if you don't want to hear what your wife has to say, which probably sounds like the cruelest thing ever, but here's what matters most. Your wife loves it when you take time to sit down and talk to her.

You take a look at the pages of Scripture and see the example of the 2 great kings, David and Solomon, both of whom were marreid to more than one woman, (Solomon being married a great number of times) how would it be that the Kings fo the great Nation of israel woudl know what to say to their wives. Know their hearts? Know how they feel? It takes time, and when I tweeted all of these ones, I had a problem realizing that yes, married people (a couple) it takes 2 people, one talking and one listening, and both people engaging in meaningful conversation.

Here are the first 10 so you can see...

What it means to be a husband #1: Stop talking and listen...

“What it means to be a husband” #2: Getting your hands dirty for the sake of love is a good thing. Don't be afraid to cook or clean ;)

“What it means to be a husband” #3: you don't have good taste in fashion; let your wife dress you, for the love of God!

“What it means to be a husband” #4: There are responsibilities that rest on your shoulders, you must remember to hold them up always...

“What it means to be a husband” #5: You are your wife's biggest fan, don't forget that!

“What it means to be a husband” #6: Don't stop with an "extra mile" go on and on and on and on...your wife is worth ALL your extra effort.

What it means to be a husband #7: laziness accomplishes nothing.

“What it means to be a husband #8: what may seem like a funny joke to you, might not be funny to your wife, so keep it to yourself ;)

What it means to be a husband #9: We all make mistakes in life, it's important to guard our hearts and learn from them.

What it means to be a husband #10; driving long distances, remember the phrase Carrie Underwood says best: "Jesus take the wheel!" ;)

I wrote a lot of these during some times that were both good and stressful. Donna and I were attending a children's ministry conference in Oklahoma by the time 9/10 were being written.

This is all for right now...it will have to be sequenced, as it is late and I really need to be in bed.
Look for more this week.

Blessings, Grace, and Peace!
